Experts assess the need for an antibody test during vaccination

There is no need to do an antibody test before vaccination, but after receiving all the components of the vaccine, the analysis can show its effectiveness, experts interviewed by RBC say.

“Citizens who have recovered from covid-19 have a tense immunity for six months, which with a high degree of probability guarantees the impossibility of re-disease with COVID-19. From the point of view of experts, the presence of a high level of immunoglobulin G is not a contraindication for vaccination,” Anastasia Lukanina, deputy chief physician for medical work at the Invitro clinic in Moscow, told RBC.

According to her, earlier it was possible to draw conclusions about the state of immunity by IgM and IgG antibodies to the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the CORONAVIRUS S-protein. “With the advent of the Indian strain, it is no longer possible to correctly establish an increased guaranteed level of antibodies sufficient to protect against the strain,” the expert explains.

In addition, the experts said that now there is no single approach “to identify exactly what concentration of antibodies provides sufficient protection against the occurrence of clinically pronounced forms of infection.” Dmitry Denisov, medical DIRECTOR of the Helix laboratory service, announced this in a conversation with RBC.
