Experts evaluated the hypothesis of a mild course of COVID-19 in allergy sufferers

There are too few scientific studies in the world to evaluate the hypothesis of Rospotrebnadzor about the mild course of covid-19 in allergy sufferers, allergist-immunologist Vladimir Bolibok told RBC. According to him, it is almost impossible to make an individual forecast.

“There are many patients with allergic reactions, they get sick with COVID-19, some of them die. You have to be grafted. And these arguments lead to the fact that “I will not be vaccinated,” the DOCTOR explains.

An allergic reaction is an overactive response of the immune system to a stimulus that comes through the mucous membrane, the allergist explains.

“And since the CORONAVIRUS penetrates through the mucous membrane, the immune system of allergy sufferers most likely reacts to it relatively quickly, the immune response develops quickly and the disease proceeds in a relatively mild form,” Bolibok explained.

According to Dr. Bolibok, asthmatics do not differ in immune response from other allergy sufferers, the difference is in bronchial spasm in asthma.

Immunologist and HEAD of the Laboratory of Vaccine Prevention and Immunotherapy of Allergic Diseases of the Federal State Budget Scientific Institution Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums. I. Mechnikov Mikhail Kostinov also identified a special reaction of the immune system in allergy sufferers.

“This is due to the cellular mechanism, they have certain subpopulations of lymphocytes that make them so insensitive to coronavirus infection,” the immunologist explained.

“Everything is connected with a defect in the T-lymphocyte subpopulation, which is associated with the course of bronchial asthma,” commented Kostinov.

However, the head of the Department of Clinical Immunology and Allergology of the Moscow Medical Academy named after I.M. Sechenov Alexander Karaulov believes that only asthmatics can more easily endure the course of a coronavirus infection.

“Allergy sufferers do not tolerate it easier. This bronchial asthma may be the disease that affects the course of the coronavirus, that is, to a lesser extent, severe patients. This is a feature of immunity, a different type of response - research on this topic continues at the present time, ”Karaulov told RBC.

Earlier, Natalya Pshenichnaya, deputy DIRECTOR for clinical and analytical work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, suggested that allergy sufferers can more easily tolerate COVID-19.

She explained this by the fact that allergies are accompanied by copious discharge from the nose, lacrimation. And so the virus does not have time to gain a foothold on the receptors of the upper respiratory tract.
