Experts named the industries with the fastest income growth during the pandemic

The NKR Agency has compiled a new rating of sectors of the Russian economy, ranking them according to the dynamics of post-pandemic recovery.A number of sectors are doing well - despite the pandemic and even thanks to it

The rating agency "National Credit Ratings" (NKR, part of the RBC group) assessed the financial result of the sectors of the Russian economy in the pandemic year 2020 and the potential for their recovery in 2021. As in the debut study of last year, the analyzed sectors are divided into groups with the names of animals with different speeds of movement: “snails”, “bison”, “badgers”, “horses” and “leopards” (all these animals are found on the territory of Russia) .

Leaders and outsiders of the Russian economy - RBC Pro rating

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought windfall profits to a number of industries - primarily due to price increases, which in some cases were associated with lower supply (for example, non-ferrous metallurgy), in others with increased demand (for example, pharmaceuticals), follows from the study.

As the main criterion for dividing industries into "biological" groups, the NKR determined the speed of their recovery, as well as the growth and decline in sales turnover in the previous and forecast periods. The most representative category is the “badgers” (17% of GDP), which fell strongly in 2020, but quickly moved to recovery - their revenue should return to pre-crisis levels in 2021-2022.
