Governor Delivers Video Message on COVID Explosion

The number of CORONAVIRUS beds in the healthcare system of the region will be increased from January 29. About 5,500 people are currently receiving outpatient treatment. The explosive growth in the incidence of a new strain of coronavirus may last an average of about two weeks, and the Kaliningrad region may reach numbers of 2 and 3 thousand cases per day, however, most of the cases will most likely not require hospitalization. This opinion was expressed on January 28 in his video message by Governor Anton Alikhanov. 

“I am sure that today there are no mechanical ways to take and stop this growth. Even a general lockdown would not have helped us this time, given the higher infectiousness of the new strain. An example of the EU countries, which are slightly ahead of us in terms of dynamics, is before our eyes. Experts believe that the peak in the Kaliningrad region will be in February,” he said.

Regarding the sharp increase in the incidence among children, the HEAD of the region said that the authorities would do everything not to transfer schools to a full distance - they would act pointwise.

“Healthy children, of course, should be in schools and receive a quality education.”

According to him, the numbers of relative hospitalizations have halved compared to the fall of last year.
