About 300 thousand foreign students study in Russia. As RBC found out, many of them are experiencing problems with entering the country to resume their studies.

How many foreign students are in Russia

There are 297.9 thousand foreign students studying in Russia, according to the data provided in 2020 by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. At the same time, in the coming years, their number should grow by more than 100 thousand people - according to the passport of the national project "Education", by 2024 425 thousand foreigners should study in Russian universities.

Foreign students study at 688 Russian universities, the most popular, as follows from the data of the Ministry of Education and Science presented by RBC, are five universities among foreign students:

Kazan Federal University (KFU) - 9256 foreign students; Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (PFUR) - 7569 foreign students; Moscow Financial and Industrial University "Synergy" - 7008 foreign students; National Research University Higher School of Economics (NRU HSE) — 5238 foreign students; Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) - 5036 foreign students.

The second five universities, in which a total of almost 20 thousand people study from abroad, include Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Ural Federal University named after M.V. B.N. Yeltsin (UrFU), St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU), First Moscow State Medical University named after I.I. THEM. Sechenov of the Ministry of Health (Sechenov University) and Orenburg State Medical University of the Ministry of Health.
