Cases of infection with a variety of the Indian strain of coronavirus "delta plus" in Russia have not been registered. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova during a meeting between the president and the government.

“Indian scientists have reported several delta mutations, one of which has been named delta plus. Isolated cases of it were recorded in the republic. Seven sequences of this variant, "delta plus", have already been deposited in five countries - these are the USA , Great Britain, Germany, Nepal and Bostwana. We don’t have it yet,” Golikova said.

A feature of the mutation, according to Golikova, is a decrease in the activity of antibodies to the virus in those who have recovered from the coronavirus and vaccinated.

In the United States, an Indian strain of coronavirus with a double mutation was identified

The Indian strain of coronavirus, dubbed "delta", was discovered in India in October last year. Since that time, it has spread throughout the world, including in Russia. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on June 18 that almost 90% of COVID-19 patients in Moscow had the Indian strain.

On June 21st, Indian authorities reported a "delta" mutation, which was named "delta plus". Later, the Ministry of Health of the country announced the danger of the newest identified strain. It differs from the previous strain in a higher spreading rate, the ability to more severely affect lung cells. The scientists also assumed that the new strain would be able to overcome the protection created by antibodies.
