Against the backdrop of the spread of the omicron CORONAVIRUS strain in Russia, the number of cases of hospitalization of children has increased. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova at a meeting of President Vladimir Putin with members of the government.

“Over the past two days, hospitalization of children has increased by 36.5%. Now this is the subject of our special attention, and, of course, we treat this with great concern,” said Golikova.

She also said that cases of the Omicron strain have already been identified in 72 regions of Russia.

The rate of hospitalizations per 100,000 population over the past week was 39 and increased by 9% compared to the previous week. However, the number of newly diagnosed cases increased much more - 231 per 100 thousand of the population, an increase of more than 102%.
