In RUSSIA as a whole, vaccination rates have almost doubled over the past week, but in some regions the situation remains frightening. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and head of the operational headquarters for the fight against the disease Tatyana Golikova.

“The worst situation today is in the Republic of Dagestan. Colleagues assured that the situation is under control, that they will increase the rate of vaccination. Nevertheless, the indicators of the development of the epidemic process and the level of morbidity scare us. Colleagues assured that they will cope, nevertheless, we remain worried, ”Golikova said at a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with government members held on July 7 via videoconference.

Dagestan tops the list of regions that are outsiders in terms of vaccination against COVID-19 for more than a month. As of February 17, in the republic, as RBC reported, at least one vaccination was given to only 5222 residents, which accounted for 0.17% of the population of the region. Two weeks later, the share of those vaccinated increased to only 0.46%, leaving Dagestan as the only Russian region where less than 1% of the population was vaccinated with the first dose.

According to RBC estimates, over the past two weeks, the proportion of those who received at least one dose of the vaccine in Dagestan has increased by less than 1 p.p. As of the beginning of July, 4.84% of the population in Dagestan began vaccination, and only 3.24% of the population were fully vaccinated. With this indicator, Dagestan still closes the group of regions lagging behind in vaccination.

At a meeting with Putin, Golikova noted that the epidemiological situation in Russia as a whole remains "quite tense." According to her, over the past week, the number of COVID-19 infections in Russia has increased by 17%.

“In 82 regions of the country, the incidence is growing, we see a slight decrease in Moscow. Also, there has been a slight decrease in the Kirov region,” said Golikova.

The vice-premier explained the situation in the capital by the restrictions imposed by the city authorities and the high rates of vaccination.

In total, as of the morning of July 7 in Russia, according to Golikova, almost 27 million people were vaccinated with the first component of the vaccine, of which 18.5 million people received both components.

The Deputy Prime Minister named the following regions as leaders in terms of vaccination rates: Chechnya, Moscow and the Moscow Region, Tula Region, Krasnodar Territory, Kemerovo, Sakhalin and Belgorod Regions.
