The chief epidemiologist of the region supported the wearing of masks during the COVID-19 season

The chief epidemiologist of the Novosibirsk region, Elena Pudova, supported the idea of ​​wearing medical masks during the CORONAVIRUS and flu season. This was reported in the press service of the regional government.

According to Pudova, a medical mask is a simple and effective tool that will help to avoid contracting an infection transmitted by airborne droplets. Doctors recommend that sick people wear medical masks even at home in order not to infect their relatives. In crowded places, wearing medical masks is mandatory, Pudova stressed.

“The virus does not get into the air by itself. Any virus is a parasite that lives inside the cells of the host organism and is excreted with biological fluids: saliva, mucous secretions from the nose. it is transmitted [from person to person] at the moment of conversation, and especially when the patient coughs or sneezes. The mask is a reliable physical barrier to viruses. For example, two people are a meter apart. One is currently sick and shedding the virus, the other is healthy. Even if only the sick person wears a mask, the second person’s chance of getting infected is reduced by 5-7 times. If both are wearing masks, then the risk of transmitting a [respiratory] infection is reduced to 2-3%, ”the DOCTOR said.
