The autumn months will be extremely important in preparing for and responding to the pandemic, said the head of the World HEALTH Organization (WHO), Tedros Ghebreyesus, during a briefing in Geneva. WHO broadcast on Twitter.

“The next three months will be a critical period to prepare for and respond to a future pandemic,” the WHO chief said.

Ghebreyesus also added that the situation with the number of daily detected cases and deaths has stabilized in the world. “But this stability is at a very high level - more than 4.5 million cases of diseases and 68,000 deaths,” he concluded.

In early August, WHO admitted that the number of coronavirus cases worldwide at the beginning of next year would exceed 200 million people. This assessment will hold true if governments fail to stop the current rate of covid-19 infection . Ghebreyesus stressed that the actual number of cases is very different from the numbers registered by WHO.

The number of people infected with coronavirus exceeded 200 million by August 5. According to Johns Hopkins University, the most known cases of infection in the United States  - more than 36 million people. Next on the list are India (more than 32 million people) and Brazil (more than 20 million). In total, 4.31 million people died from COVID-19 worldwide, the WHO said.

In RUSSIA, over the entire period of the epidemic, 6.8 million people fell ill, 178,423 died. Over the past day, 19,536 cases have been identified, 809 people have died, follows from the data of the operational headquarters.
