The head of the RDIF admitted that Omicron will be the “beginning of the end of the pandemic”

The appearance of "omicron" may mark the beginning of the end of the covid-19 pandemic , said the HEAD of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Kirill Dmitriev.

“We hope that Omicron will be a kind of beginning of the end of the pandemic. But there are risks of other mutations, ”he said (quoted by TASS).

Scientists from South Africa, where they first identified the new strain, have linked it to the approaching end of the acute phase of the pandemic. They noted that with each wave, a milder course of the disease was observed. This indicates that the omicron strain can serve as a “harbinger” of the end of the epidemic phase of the pandemic and its transition to the endemic one, characteristic of a certain area, scientists from South Africa believe.

At the same time, Vladimir Chulanov, chief freelance specialist in infectious diseases of the Russian Ministry of HEALTH, noted in an interview with RBC that one should not think about the end of the evolution of CORONAVIRUS on the omicron variant. It cannot be ruled out that a strain may appear that will be more adapted to the conditions that have arisen and take the place of the "omicron," he warned.
