The Sputnik V vaccine for children and adolescents may be registered as early as September 15, 2021. This was stated in an interview with Izvestia by the DIRECTOR of the Center. N.F. Gamalei Alexander Gintsburg.
“By September 15, we will be able to register a children's vaccine so that schoolchildren can be injected with it at the same time. But there are fears that we will be forced to do the third phase on a sample of 3 thousand people. Then, of course, we won’t make it in time by September,” he said.
According to him, if the vaccine cannot be registered before September, then during the period of the spread of the Indian strain of CORONAVIRUS “delta” in RUSSIA, children can become dangerous carriers. “During the spread of the Indian strain, children will go to school, and by September 20, there may be problems first for children, and then for all of us,” he explained.
He also added that vaccine trials are currently being conducted in the 12-17 age group, but when completed, it is planned to move to an interval of 6-12 years.
