Clinical trials of a Russian cancer vaccine are expected to begin by mid-2025, Alexander Ginzburg, director of the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, told RIA Novosti.

"I think that by the middle of next year we will begin clinical trials of the vaccine involving cancer patients," Gintsburg said.

The vaccine is currently being tested in preclinical studies on mice. Specifically, the technology is being developed not only to extend lifespan but also to create drugs capable of destroying tumors, the physician explained. If these trials are successful, he said, the vaccine will help patients with non-small cell lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, certain types of kidney cancer, and melanoma. This vaccine will be particularly useful for patients in the early stages, he added.

In early June , Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko announced that a Russian cancer vaccine is in the preclinical trials stage, with results expected by the end of this year.

According to Ginzburg, the vaccine is therapeutic, meaning it will be administered to people who are already infected. It is based on mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid) technology. This method was used to create vaccines againstCOVID-19 Phizer and Moderna. The new vaccine can be used for any type of cancer, but it will be tailored to the individual, meaning the drug must be developed specifically for the individual.
