The European Union has already received enough doses of vaccines to vaccinate at least 70% of adults against covid-19 by the end of July. This was stated by the HEAD of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, reports REUTERS.
“The European Union has kept its word. This weekend we have delivered enough vaccines to member countries to fully vaccinate at least 70% of EU adults this month,” she said.
However, von der Leyen stressed that COVID-19 has not yet been defeated. “We are ready to supply more vaccines, including against new strains,” added the head of the European Commission.
The EU has relied heavily on the vaccine developed by BioNTech and Pfizer, but also buys other drugs, Reuters notes. The European Commission said last week European Union countries ordered almost 40 million additional doses of the vaccine produced by Johnson & Johnson.
