The third dose of the Pfizer and Moderna CORONAVIRUS vaccines is recommended for immunocompromised people and can be given 28 days after the second dose. This conclusion was made by the experts of the committee on medicines for humans of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), according to the website of the organization.
“Studies have shown that an additional dose of these vaccines increases the ability to produce antibodies against the virus that causes covid-19 in organ transplant patients who have a weakened immune system,” the recommendations say.
However, the researchers found no direct evidence that the ability to produce antibodies protects such people from getting COVID-19. However, an additional third dose of the vaccine will increase protection for at least some of them, the regulator expects. "The EMA will continue to monitor any data on their performance," the agency said in a statement.

The EMA noted that it is necessary to distinguish between the use of third doses of vaccines for people with normal and weakened immune systems. The regulator concluded that for people with normal immunity between the ages of 18 and 55 years, the optimal period for Pfizer revaccination after a second dose is about six months.
However, official recommendations for the use of booster doses may be issued by national HEALTH authorities based on new data on the effectiveness of drugs, the EMA concluded. The regulator added that the risk of inflammatory heart disease or other extremely rare side effects after revaccination is still unexplored.
The EMA clarified that the use of a booster dose of the Moderna vaccine for people with normal immunity is still being studied, information about the results will be published after the studies are completed.

At the end of August, WHO HEAD Theodore Ghebreyesus urged countries not to revaccinate the population. In his opinion, the use of third doses of vaccines is "morally wrong", since people in poor countries do not have the opportunity to get even the first and second vaccinations.
The Russian Ministry of Health believes that it is necessary to revaccinate during the period of the rise in the incidence six months after the course of vaccination or the illness. At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova estimated that the third vaccination can be done a year after the second, but in an unfavorable epidemiological situation, this period is reduced to six months.
