What prevents foreigners from coming to Russia for COVID-19 vaccines

The absence of the Sputnik V vaccine in commercial circulation is the main obstacle to vaccine tourism. If this restriction is lifted, then up to 15 thousand people can come to RUSSIA for vaccination, according to Intourist.

Vladimir Putin on June 4 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum instructed the government "by the end of the month" to work out the issue of organizing paid vaccination for foreigners in the country. Russia meets its vaccine needs "in full" and "we can provide foreign citizens with the opportunity to come to Russia and get vaccinated here," the Russian president explained.

RBC figured out what prevents foreigners from coming to Russia now for a vaccine and whether this service will be in demand.

Can foreigners come to Russia now

The entry of foreign citizens into Russia was seriously restricted about a year ago, in particular, trips for private purposes were banned. The corresponding order No. 635-r “to ensure the security of the state, protect public HEALTH and prevent the spread of a new CORONAVIRUS infection” was adopted by the government in March 2020.
