The number of COVID infections in Russia for the first time in a week exceeded 17 thousand.

Over the past day, 17,525 cases of infection with coronavirus infection COVID-19 have been detected in Russia , follows from the data of the federal operational headquarters. The number of infections was the highest in more than a week - the previous time a larger number of newly diagnosed patients was reported on January 2 (18,233).

A sharp surge in infection was recorded in Moscow, where the number of patients per day soared immediately by 66% - from 2778 to 4635.

During the same day, 783 people died from COVID-19 in Russia (741 a day earlier).
