Czech Republic issued more than 350 thousand visas to Ukrainian refugees

The Czech Republic has issued 350,302 special visas to Ukrainian refugees, which allow them to obtain asylum in the republic, the Czech Ministry of the Interior reports on Twitter.

On May 20, more than 1,000 people received such visas. As of this date, more than 252 thousand refugees from the territory of Ukraine were registered with the police for foreigners, it follows from the data of the department.

A month and a half ago, on April 2, the Czech Interior Ministry reported that more than 254,000 special visas were issued to Ukrainian refugees. Then it noted that most of those who came from Ukraine were registered in Prague, more than 60 thousand people. The ministry also pointed out that more than half of the internally displaced persons in the Czech Republic are children. Then the authorities expected that up to 550 thousand Ukrainians would arrive in the country.

At the same time, back in mid-March, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said that about 270 thousand refugees from Ukraine arrived in the republic and the authorities were already running out of resources to accommodate them. Nevertheless, the head of government noted, the Czech Republic must continue to take measures that will help to cope with a further increase in the number of incoming refugees. Then he announced changes in the laws governing visa issues, security, education and employment of refugees.

Since February 24, 6 million 409 thousand 355 people have left Ukraine, follows from the data of the UN Refugee Agency as of May 19. At the same time, Poland received 3 million 439 thousand 857 internally displaced persons, Romania - 943,015, Russia  - 887,651, Hungary - 626,548, Moldova - 467,636, Slovakia - 432,502. 308 people.
