Nasal vaccine of the N.F. Gamaleya against influenza will be effective against various strains, including swine influenza A (H1N1), director of the center Alexander Gintsburg told Izvestia.

“The design features of the nasal vaccine are such that protection will be formed against different strains of influenza A, whether it be H1N1 swine flu or bird flu. It will also protect against types of influenza type B, which are annually included in the classic vaccines, ”the developer of the drug, head of the laboratory of molecular biotechnology at the Center for them, explained to the newspaper. The new vaccine is called GamFluVak-Kvadri. The drug is made in the form of a solution that is injected through the nose. This is a quadrivalent vector vaccine (the “deliverers” of the drug are four human adenoviruses), created by the type of the Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19 .

The first phase of clinical trials of the vaccine, which was approved by the Ministry of Health, began on September 28, follows from the information in the State Register of Medicines. The study will involve 45 people and will evaluate the safety, reactogenicity and immunogenicity of the vaccine in healthy volunteers. The two-phase trial of the drug is due to end on December 31st.

According to Shmarov, the first stage is going well, and no negative side effects were registered in the volunteers after the administration of the drug. In the next six months, the vaccinated will be monitored. Preliminary results of the first stage of clinical trials of the nasal vaccine have not yet been published, they should be made public in three months.
