Lenta will buy the Bill network for €215 million
Alexey Mordashov's Lenta company will be transferred to 161 supermarkets, after which the Billa RUSSIA trademark will cease to exist, and all supermarkets will be integrated into the Lenta chain. The deal will amount to €215 million. The deal is scheduled to be closed in the summer of 2021 after receiving approval from the Federal Antimonopoly Service. The deal was announced the next day after the announcement of the purchase of Dixy chain by Magnit.
According to the HEAD of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, large-scale changes in grocery retail do not pose a threat to competition in the Russian market. He noted that the total share of the ten largest retail chains in Russia now accounts for about a quarter of the retail food market, which is significantly less than in a number of other countries. For example, in Germany this figure is 71%, in the UK - 60%, in Poland - 49%, in the usa - 46%.
