The Bolshoi Theater canceled the ballet "Nureyev" by Serebrennikov

The State Academic Bolshoi Theater has canceled the ballet "Nureyev" by Kirill Serebrennikov and the opera "Don Pasquale", they were scheduled for early May. The press service of the theater reported this on Telegram.

“Instead of the previously announced performances of the Nureyev ballet, performances of the Spartacus ballet will be shown. Tickets are valid,” the message says without giving a reason.

The production of "Nureyev" was to take place on May 6, 7 and 8, "Don Pasquale" was to be held on May 5-8, the latter was replaced by the opera "The Barber of Seville".

The website of the Bolshoi Theater published a poster of upcoming performances until the end of June, among them there are no operas Nureyev and Don Pasquale.

At the end of March, the court expunged Serebrennikov's conviction in the Seventh Studio case, and his probation was canceled. In June 2020, as part of this case, he was sentenced to three years probation, the director was ordered to pay a fine of 800 thousand rubles. The court took into account the expiration of half of the established probationary period, payment of the entire amount of the fine and compensation for damages.

Variety wrote that after the removal of a criminal record, Serebrennikov left Russia. According to the publication, he went to Germany. French film critic Joel Chapron published a photo of the director in the Place de la Bastille in Paris at the end of March, TASS reported. The last Instagram photo (owned by Meta, a company recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) of the director was published at the end of April from the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
