Former presidential envoy to the Siberian Federal District dies of coronavirus

General Anatoly Kvashnin 

Former Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of RUSSIA in the Siberian Federal District, General Anatoly Kvashnin, died of covid-19 . This was announced by the Club of military leaders of Russia.

Kvashnin was born in 1946 in Ufa. In 1969 he graduated from the military department of the Kurgan Machine-Building Institute, in 1976 from the Military Academy of the Armored Forces, in 1989 from the Military Academy of the General Staff. By this time, Kvashnin was the first deputy commander of the 28th Army. From May to August 1992, Kvashnin commanded the 7th Tank Army.

In December 1994, Kvashnin was appointed commander of the Joint Group of Forces in Chechnya, and from February 1995, he led all the troops of the North Caucasian Military District.

In May 1997, Colonel General Kvashnin headed the General Staff and was appointed First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation. In 1997, Kvashnin became an army general, in 1999 he was awarded the title of Hero of Russia.

In the summer of 2004, Kvashnin was dismissed from the post of chief of the General Staff, in September of the same year he was dismissed into the reserve and appointed the plenipotentiary representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Siberian Federal District. Kvashnin held this position until 2010.
