There are casualties among the South Ossetian servicemen participating in Russia's special military operation in Ukraine. This was stated in an interview with TASS by the President of the Republic Anatoly Bibilov.
“You know, any confrontation and any operation, of course, it cannot do without victims, unfortunately. Unfortunately, we have dead people,” he said.
Bibilov did not specify exactly how many servicemen from South Ossetia are taking part in the special operation in Ukraine, but noted that they are "sufficient to assist in the conduct of a special military operation."

Russia has been conducting a special operation in Ukraine since February 24. On March 26, the press service of Bibilov told RBC that contract servicemen from the Russian base in South Ossetia, among whom there are residents of the republic, were sent to the special operation zone in Ukraine. “Our guys are going to fulfill their military duty with a banner proudly raised. I talked with them, felt their high fighting spirit, ”the president said then.

On March 30, the authorities of South Ossetia announced that a vote on the issue of joining Russia would be held in the republic in the near future. “We have every reason to join Russia, there are no legal obstacles to this,” said Alan Tadtaev, speaker of the South Ossetian parliament. A day later, Bibilov admitted that North and South Ossetia, if the latter became part of Russia, would unite.
After Bibilov's statement, senator Andrey Klimov, deputy HEAD of the United Russia commission on international cooperation, said that there were no legal obstacles for South Ossetia to join Russia. A similar position was made by the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Artem Turov. According to him, the entry of South Ossetia into Russia will give the republic the opportunity to develop and be stronger economically and politically.
