Biden says the future of China's economy lies with the West

China understands that its economic future is much more connected with the West than with Russia, US President Joe Biden said on CBS News.

“In my opinion, China understands that its economic future is much more connected with the West than with Russia. Therefore, I hope that he will not interfere,” he said.

In addition, the US president said that during a recent conversation with Chinese leader Xi Jinping he did not put forward any threats to him, but he “clearly explained” what the consequences would be if Russia were supported in the context of the Ukrainian events.

The conversation between the U.S. and Chinese leaders via video link on March 18 was their first bilateral contact since the video summit in November 2021. The purpose of the conversation, as White House press secretary Jen Psaki pointed out, was to clarify China's attitude towards the situation in Ukraine, as well as to inform Beijing about the consequences if Moscow supported it.
