Antonov accused the West of ignoring Russia's security requirements

Western countries have ignored the demands of Russia's security guarantees. This was stated by Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov, speaking at a reception on the occasion of Victory Day, TASS reports.

“Our country has always advocated the creation of a system of equal and indivisible security. But no one in the West wanted to hear the fair and justified demands of the Russian Federation for security guarantees,” Antonov said.

According to him, on the contrary, NATO member countries have consistently created a threat to the Russian border.

During his speech at the Victory Parade, the HEAD of state recalled that in December 2021 RUSSIA proposed to NATO and the United States to conclude an agreement on security guarantees and called on the West to have an honest dialogue.

In December 2021, amid accusations from the West of Russia of preparing an attack on Ukraine, Moscow sent Washington proposals for security guarantees. Russia demanded non-expansion of NATO to the east and refusal to accept the former republics of the USSR, including Ukraine and Georgia, into it.

In January, Russia held three rounds of talks on this issue with the United States, NATO and the OSCE. However, the parties failed to agree on key points for the Russian side.

On February 24, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine. The President called its main goals the protection of the population of Donbass from genocide, as well as the demilitarization and denazification” of the neighboring state.
