
Medical laboratories in Russia increased their revenue by 21% over the past week, to 77 million rubles, according to the statistics of VTB's acquiring business (available from RBC). Compared to the figures for the same period of 2019 and 2020, the turnover in the category of medical laboratories increased by more than 1.5 times.
The number of transactions in medical laboratories over the past week turned out to be 21% more than a week earlier - almost 40 thousand. Compared to the same period last year, the demand for laboratory services doubled, and with the pre-COVID 2019 - 2.2 times. At the same time, turnover increased by 64% compared to 2020, and by 71% compared to 2019.
But the average check in laboratories, despite the growing popularity of their services, has decreased. It amounted to 3.2 thousand rubles. - this is 11% more than a week earlier, but 4% less than in 2020, and a third less than in 2019.
“The change in the epidemiological situation in Russia, especially in Moscow and St. Petersburg , as well as the introduction of related restrictions, has led to an increase in demand for medical laboratory services, in particular for PCR testing and antibody tests. Therefore, the revenue of medical laboratories has grown as expected, and, according to our estimates, this growth will continue, primarily in Moscow, where new rules for visiting public catering establishments came into force the day before, ”commented Sergey Kirpichenko, Deputy Head of the VTB Acquiring Department, on these data.
FAS will raise prices for PCR tests and antibody tests from COVID-19 Business
Since mid-June, an increase in demand for PCR tests and antibody tests has been recorded in Russia, RBC was told in private laboratories. So, in Invitro, the growth in the number of requests in recent weeks has amounted to 150%, Nina Oreshkina, director of public relations for the company, told RBC. Now demand has grown more significantly than at the beginning of the previous wave of COVID-19 in the fall of 2020, she noted. The growing interest of Russians in tests was also confirmed in the Helix and Hemotest laboratories.
The jump in demand for medical laboratory services occurred against the backdrop of a sharp increase in the incidence of COVID-19 in Russia and at the same time an increase in the number of restrictions associated with the epidemic. Since the beginning of June, when the incidence was at a stable level relative to spring rates, the daily number of detected cases of infection has increased from about 9 thousand to more than 20 thousand. The daily number of deaths from COVID-19, according to the operational headquarters, has increased from 350-400 to more than 600. On June 29, Russia recorded an absolute record for the number of deaths per day since the start of the pandemic - 652.

In Moscow and more than 20 other regions of Russia, mandatory vaccination of certain groups of the population was introduced. In addition, Moscow imposed restrictions on visiting catering without a QR code indicating vaccination, the presence of natural immunity from COVID-19 or a PCR test indicating the absence of the disease.
